Question
What is said and or done by the members of the congregation during the Eucharistic prayer. Are they striking their chests 3 times?
-Wondering in Washington
Answer
Answer
During the Eucharistic Prayer the congregation responds to the three acclamations: the sanctus, the memorial acclamation and the concluding acclamation. They kneel [or stand depending on the diocese and it's posture regulations] and attentively participate in the prayer with song and attention. In the General Instruction on the Roman Missal 2002, there is no prescribed rubric for the assembly to strike their breasts.
