Praying the "Liturgy of Hours"?

Question

Question

Are lay people allowed to pray, what I'm told is called, "the Liturgy of Hours?" How long does it usually take? Are there guides to help?

--Lurking in Louisville

Answer

Answer

The Liturgy of the Hours is the prayer of the whole church. Morning and Evening Prayer are the chief hours and usually take about 20 minutes, when prayed well, and sung. There are guide books at Catholic book stores. The directions are usually in the middle of the book in some editions. Contact your diocesan office of worship for specific workshops or guides to assist you. We hesitate to mention a few guides here because we do not want to endorse one over another.
