The mass began with a long procession up the center aisle. On either side of the aistle stood the Order of Martin de Porres, a group of lay Dominicans that far outnumber the friars here in Lima. They were robed in formal black and white and stood at attention in the aistle the entire mass.
The Franciscans were responsible for most of the leading ministries in the mass. These three led the procession into the church, followed by Dominicans and Franciscans in alternating order. The Dominican sisters were in groups around the church and didn't process in (I don't know why... they just don't here in PerĂº).
A Franciscan presided, other Franciscans proclaimed the scriptures and preached. Of course a healthy dose of incense was tossed about to add to the gravity of the celebration.
The Franciscans really know how to run a formal Mass! There were some Dominican moments as well, as this brother on the right singing the psalm.
